Horse Race v1.4 - (c)1996 Practical Computer Services
Thank you for downloading this file to evaluate our program!
Horse Race is a PCBoard PPE which simulates a day at the race track.
Here's how to install it.
1) Copy all of the files from the ZIP into a directory.
2) Create an entry in your CMD.LST for HORSES.PPE pointing to the directory.
Following the entry, are 2 optional parameters. The first parameter is for
program logging. Use LOGPPE if you want a log created in the PPE directory.
Use LOGCALL if you want entries in your Caller's log. Use LOGBOTH if you
want both of the above logs. The second parameter, sets the number of races
allowed per day for each player. For example, to set the number of races per
day to 20, and to have the program log its' usage to your Caller's log, the
CMD.LST would look like this C:\PCB\PPL\HORSES.PPE LOGCALL 20.
3) If you want the program to create a bulletin of high scores, modify the
sample HORSES.BAT. If you do not want a bulletin created, delete HORSES.BAT.
4) If you want the program to run like a door, modify the sample HORSESD file
then make the entry for running a Shell Door pointing to this file.
This program will create a file in the same directory as the PPE called
HORSES.DAT which is the file that keeps track of the players. It will also
create a file called HORSES.SCO in that directory if you want a bulletin
created. If you want to 'recycle' the game at any time, simply delete
HORSES.DAT. This can be done manually, or in an event.
This copy is an Unregistered version. It is limited to 10 turns per day, and
up to 10 users can play. The registered version will allow you to decide how
many turns per day, and allow up to 50 players. It will also remove the
beginning UNREGISTERED delay. Please support the Shareware concept if you
continue to use this PPE for more than 30 days. Thanks!

How can I pay for this fantastic program (it does just what I want!)
Ok, there are several ways to get your registration number for this program
the first and fastest way is to call up the support board ( numbers at
the end of this doc file). Once on-line, type KEY, this will enter in
to our on-line order program, it will ask for the usual name and
address info, it will then ask which program you want to register, choose
HORSES. You will then have an invoice, and a key file generated for you,
download both, install the key file into your Horsesr directory, and write us
a check. You can also pay for your key files on-line using your credit
card by typing PCS at the main menu.
Whats this? Get the KEY file, then write you a check? Isn't that backwards?
Well, for most software companies it is, but we have been working on the
honor system for about a year now, and the response has been great, it really
restores our faith in human beings when we see people sending in checks *after*
they get their KEY files. We do have some people who steal from us, but they
usually find out that that does not pay. When you are generating your own
KEY files, please notice that we have many exciting products for PCB, and those
products were made possible by all of you sending in those checks. A good
thing to keep in mind!
Note: The unregistered version will have a 10 second delay at startup!
